It has been some time since I gave you all an update. The reason? Well, because things have just been moving along without any major changes. That is until the past week.
I am now 17 weeks pregnant. Along with this comes a whole slew of different symptoms. I no longer feel nauseous all hours of the day. That, thankfully, comes and goes now. I have been having more headaches lately but usually (except for the one this evening) they go away pretty quickly. I have been having some contractions already but it is nothing I wasn’t expecting. They are happening earlier than I expected, but I knew they would come sooner or later because I have them early with all of my pregnancies.
My only real complaint at this point is that I have horrible back pain. My insurance does not cover chiropractic care and my OB only wants to pursue that. So, what that means is that I do nothing. Tylenol does not work. This isn’t a pregnancy problem but it is definitely exacerbated by pregnancy. I have degenerative disc disease in my lumbar spine so my back often hurts. The extra pulling and pressure from baby and weight on my back only makes it that much worse.
We still do not know the sex of the baby. My next doctor appointment is May 31st and I may find out then. If not, my big ultrasound is on June 10th and I will find out then if baby cooperates. I am putting it out there that I think this is a boy… time will tell though!
We still have a lot of planning to do for the baby. Once we find out the gender, we will be moving rooms around for the kids. Well, not right away necessarily as I plan to have the baby in our room for a few months. I still need to find a baby bed or co-sleeper bed to use in our room and we need to organize our bedroom to make room for baby. In addition, I need to purchase a car seat and maybe a swing. If the baby is a boy as I predict, we will need to buy additional clothes because seasons won’t match up with what we have left from Johnny. Other than that, I need to purchase some things for breastfeeding (breast pump, washable breast pads, lanolin… for example) and I would like to have a few more pieces of maternity wear. Right now, I have to wash clothes every 3 days in order to have clean clothes.
I did want to give you one other update… I had blood drawn at my last appointment. It is the Quad Screen we were using to test for spinal neural problems. The test results came back normal so that is one less thing we need to worry about. Once my “big” ultrasound is complete, I will feel much more confident about the health of the baby but these little tests have set my mind at ease considerably.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I promise I will keep you informed of any big changes.

Glad to hear the Quad Screen came back normal. I can see what your going thru without being able to visit a chiropractor. Our daughter injured her back and found out at the same time she was about 6 weeks pregnant.. couldn’t take certain meds to help muscles relax, physical therapy at a minimum.
Try to rest as much as you can, will be keeping you in our prayers.. crossing my fingers your hunch on being a boy is true.

Thanks Todd. I know, I know… I need to learn to take it easy. But, with 3 kids, a job, and school, that is much easier said than done. 🙂
