I love to read. I read a ton of books; at least one a week. That said, when I get into a series that I really enjoy, there is no stopping me. I liked the Twilight series despite the teeny-bopper stereotypes that came with them. I thought they were interesting reads and easy to get through.
It wasn’t until a friend of mine mentioned the Black Dagger Brotherhood series did I fall in love with “paranormal romance” books. I didn’t even know they were classified as such until today when I went looking for more of the series that has been the focus of my reading for the past few weeks.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series written by J.R. Ward is really a series of vampire books for grown-ups. These are not books you will want your teen daughter (or son) to be reading. If you don’t like some occasional cursing and frequent depictions of sexual acts, these books are not for you. If you can get past those two hold-ups though, I can tell you that you won’t want to miss this series. It is really good.
The rundown: The books are about 6 vampire brothers and warriors that live together and fight against the Lessers. This is a different take on vampire stories than other books I have read (being Twilight and the Sookie Stackhouse series). Each book takes one of the vampires and gives their story including their look for love. You find out a bit about them all in each book but “their book” gives you insight into them and you learn to love them all even more. With each book, you also get to know the women of the series as well as the Scribe Virgin (good) and the Omega (bad).
If you are interested in these kind of books, I highly recommend them. But, I did warn you about the two things that may be an issue. I purchased all of mine except the last one on Amazon for my Kindle. I am sure you can find them in your local library too.
The books are:
- Dark Lover
- Lover Eternal
- Lover Awakened
- Lover Revealed
- Lover Unbound
- Lover Enshrined
- Lover Avenged
- Lover Mine
Let me know if you have read or do read any of these. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I have to confess that the reason I bought Kindle is because of this Black Dagger Brotherhood books! I am a lunch-time reader and don’t have a guts to open these books in busy restaurants! I have never thought that I will open romance books…but this BDBG series changed me sooooo easily! Now I’m in the paranormal world to pursuit more stories! I want to finish J.R. Ward world soon and move on to the book I ‘ve already bought (“Outlander” , have you read this yet? People said it’s THE BOOK that you don’t want to miss!). But… these sexy vampires are very hardly to shed off, you know!

Miranda, I just wrote a post about a series I read. I am currently reading the Outlander series and will write about that too. Thanks so much for the comment. Because of you and a few others, I will be posting more about books I love to read more often. 🙂

I discovered BDB last year after the void left by SS #9 ( I hate waiting a year for the new books!) I think I read the series in about a month! I tend to skip over the “sensual” parts but I really dig the plot lines. St. Charles Co Library has all of them, which is great!

Never read these. I love Molly Harper’s vampire trilogy though. Such fun humor!! The first one is Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs. I highly recommend. 🙂
Stefany says
I will have to check those out!

I’ve read Twilight and the Sookie Stackhouse novels. I just finished reading the 10th addition to the SS novels and now I need something to satisfy my vamp addiction until the 11th comes out. I’ve heard of the Black Dagger Brotherhood before but never really thought much of them till now. Thanks for the review I’m heading over to Amazon now to purchase my copy!

I still need to finish the last SS book but I got wrapped up in the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
I hope you love them… I really do. Let me know what you think after you get through one. I think they are very easy to read (despite the strange names of characters) and I got through all of them in about 2 weeks. 🙂

OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I found them and read them all in a matter of two weeks. Can’t wait for the next one to come out in March 2011 (I think!)
Stefany says
Yes, March 2011! I can’t wait. Seriously. It is almost an obsession at this point but she left way too many characters’ story lines open at the end of Lover Mine!

Sounds good!!! After I finish Pretty Little Liars I’ll have to check these out… and of course on my Kindle 🙂
Stefany says
Did you buy a Kindle? (or did you mean Kindle for the Droid?) I still need to get you my list of freebie too, huh?
Amanda (Garibay Soup) says
Kindle for the DROID ~ I really don’t know if I see the logic in buying an actual Kindle since I enjoy just reading on my phone… it doesn’t hurt my eyes. We’ll see though 🙂
Stefany says
Yeah, I read on my BB but I much prefer the actual Kindle. If you don’t mind it though, keep at it! 🙂
