Johnny is in Kindergarten and, contrary to what I thought, he is already reading. He has excelled in his reading as of late and loves it. Part of learning is loving I think so this makes me so happy. Also part of learning is practicing. This is where the Reading Kingdom came in.
What I love about the Reading Kingdom is that your child can almost do it completely by themselves. In fact, you are encouraged to NOT help them except to move the mouse if they have a problem. The program uses both a mouse and keyboard and can be adjusted to the amount of skill your child has with each. You start with a series of tests to determine the skill level of your child. There are two areas that Johnny is focusing on… Seeing Sequences and Letter Land. Each area consists of 4 levels that can take from 4-6 weeks. These are to build a foundation of learning.
Johnny really enjoys this program and I enjoy watching him learn. He seems to like the encouragement he receives from the program and is proud of himself when he completes a level. Speaking of completing levels, I receive email updates on his progress each time he “plays”. He really does think he is playing too and that is the beauty of the Reading Kingdom… learning is fun!
