Today was a big day for me and my big boy, Johnny. Today was a huge milestone in his life and one that meant mommy’s little boy really isn’t so little at all. Today, Johnny started Kindergarten!
Getting up early was a bit rough for him and will take some getting used to but he did okay. When we stepped outside to take a few pictures, he was so excited to see a sign in our front yard with his name that was welcoming him to his new school. We got in the car and headed out. It takes about 20 minutes to get to his school, which is going to take some getting used to for me!
Once at school, there was a prayer service for all the students. Then Johnny headed to his classroom with his teacher and classmates to start his day. Parents were welcome to come while the teacher read a book about a raccoon being scared to start school. It was called “The Kissing Hand” I believe. I had someone take a picture of me and my boy before I left.
I am so proud of Johnny. He gave me a kiss and I was on my way. He didn’t cry. He didn’t fuss. He sat at his desk and waited for his teacher to start class.
I held it together until I was in the car because I did not want to upset Johnny. There was one mom in particular that was boo hoo’ing a lot and I didn’t want to do that to my boy. I did some deep breathing and was okay… until I talked to my husband on the way home. Recalling what the story was about made me tear up a bit. But, I was okay.
Johnny had a half-day today (and tomorrow) so we were home for what-seemed-like no time and then headed back to get him. He was full of smiles when I picked him up and said he had a lot of fun. He really likes his teacher (as do I because she is very nice and very willing to work with his hypoglycemia issues).
I love that Johnny is excited about tomorrow. We picked out his uniform for tomorrow (actually just the shirt because he wears navy shorts everyday). He took his shower and was in bed by 8pm. Tomorrow morning he will pick out his snack and be ready to go!
Did I mention how proud I am of him? I really am. I don’t know when it happened but my baby grew up into a very nice, well-mannered little boy. His teacher told me he did really well today and how “sweet” he is. Overall, I think we both handled this very stressful day well. Joley, on the other hand, missed her brother terribly and will take some time to get used to him being gone everyday. I think we all have some adjusting to do but I am sure we will do okay with everything. I can’t wait to see what this year brings for my big boy and hope you stick around to see how things go as well.

Your child is very brave enough to go on his first time in school. Some children don’t like to go to school but your child get to be very excited and he enjoyed the school.

It’s so wonderful to see your little boy go to school without crying. Seeing excited face like your son’s cute smile can brighten up a day. Also, you won’t worry a lot coz you know he’s fine at school. I wish my future kids will behave like that. 🙂

Aww, he’s a big boy now. I remember those days well with my older children and we have one more who is just turning four…I’m going to sure miss him when school starts. Congrats on a great day (and we have that book you were talking about, it’s a good one).
