Celebrating the Minions movie with minions cupcakes!

We were so excited on December 8th! Why? Well the Minions movie was released and available for purchase! We headed to Target because they had an amazing deal… the Minions Metal Pak Blu-ray/DVD – Deluxe is a Target exclusive and includes 40 minutes of Target Exclusive content! My kids were so excited and I was pretty excited to see that I would receive a $5 Target gift card with the purchase of the Blu-Ray/DVD MetalPak! While we were at Target, we checked out all the great minions licensed products. The girls found some pajamas they wanted and Johnny found a fun game! There is so much to choose from!

My kids popped the movie into their DVD player on the way home and we started talking about how we are going to celebrate the new release. To be honest, we had already seen the movie twice before, but they were ready to see it again. We decided that we were going to make some minions cupcakes and watch the movie together as a family. Would you like to see how we created these super fun cupcakes? Keep reading!

While the kids were gearing up for a fun night, I started baking! I started with a cupcake mix and filled the cupcakes up 1/2 of the way.

Once they were baked and cooled, I started to prep them to be minions! You will need a few supplies (that all can be purchased at Target when you buy the Minions movie! You will need yellow food coloring, eyeballs, and black icing with a small tip to write with.

 

The first thing you will need to do is color your icing. You will use yellow coloring and add it to the icing. I advise doing a small amount and add more as you need to get the color you like.

 

Ice your cupcakes and place them in the refrigerator to harden the icing a bit. Once the iced cupcakes are ready, pull them out and open your eyeballs (the candy kind!). Place either one or two eyeballs on the cupcake. Remember, some minions only have one eye!

Now, using your black icing, trace around the eyeball and draw a line to the side to create the goggles. You will also want to create a mouth with the icing.

There are a number of ways that you can decorate your cupcakes to look like minions and all will be perfect for your movie night! Watching the Minions movie will be a fun family activity and your cupcakes will be a huge hit with all that are invited! Be sure to head to Target for all your family movie night needs!
