It seems like we just finished up Christmas, doesn’t it? I would love to not have to think about shopping for quite awhile. Sadly, that just isn’t the case here. Between now and July, I have 11 occasions to buy for; 9 birthdays, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day.
Because of a limited income, I am always on the lookout for shopping deals. If you know me, you know that I am a constant bargain shopper and can really stretch our money… but I have to really with 5 kids! I tend to shop after Christmas for birthday gifts. Hitting the clearance section for toys and games has proven very helpful in the past. I have a few gifts for Mason and Johnny already but have much to buy still.
So, how do I do it? I compare shopping prices and watch sales. I peruse clearance sections after major holidays and at the end of the seasons. It is amazing the amount of clothing you can get at the end of the season, especially for young kids. It isn’t just clothes and toys though. Did you know that all sales cycle? There are times of year that you will find computers on sale more often (typically in January), other electronics (in February), bicycles (in September), or you may want to stock up on some kind of staple for your cupboard.
Each item has a “season” and that is the best time to pick up stuff. So, if it is an item that we are in need of but can live without (as is the case with birthdays), I wait until the “season” comes around again. This is even true for big items like freezers, dishwashers, ovens, and other major appliances (which is often in February and then again in September).
By shopping when things are on sale and purchasing on clearance, I can clothe my children in name-brand items and still be able to afford to buy the fun stuff. If there is anything you would like to know the “season” for, leave me a comment and I will let you know. I would be happy to help you find the best time to buy the things you want!
