This is a guest post for Gift Card Planet. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have seen a lot of bloggers complaining recently about getting gift cards for payment for work done. I am not one of those complainers. I love receiving gift cards! Why? Well it makes me feel like I have money when I don’t! It helps me to see the bigger picture around me… life isn’t all bills and responsibility. We can have (responsible) fun too!
Let me explain…. if I get a gift card to Toys ‘R Us (for example), I can go to the store and buy the kids something I may not buy them if I were paid with cash. Recently, this is exactly what happened. Joley’s room is a mess. She needed some organization desperately in her tiny space. I have put off doing anything in there simply because we haven’t had the money to do so. Well, I got a gift card to go to Toys ‘R Us for some work I did for a sponsor. Yeah, I could be upset that it isn’t a debit-type card or even cash, but instead I saw this is an opportunity to get Joley a new toy box. I would never have done that had I been paid with cash. That would have went to a bill or groceries!
I encourage anyone that receives gift cards as payment to see the benefit of it. Yeah, sometimes we NEED the cash. I totally get that. But, for those times when you can be paid in gift cards instead, think about who you can spend that on. Do you have a birthday coming up? Is there something you have put off buying because you never have the extra cash to do so? Can you use that gift card to bring a smile to someone else’s face?
As for me, I am more than happy to work for gift cards and will continue to do so if it fits my needs. A gift card to an obscure place may not work for me, but if it can be used on my family, I am more than willing to work for that payment!
If you are a blogger, will you work for gift cards or are you a cash only type person?
