(taken with my phone)
Jemma had her first doctor’s appointment yesterday. The doctor was a bit concerned about her bilirubin levels so my poor baby had to be stuck in her little heel again. Thankfully, her levels were low enough that there are no further interventions needed! This is the first of my babies to not need any extra help reducing those levels so that excites me.
Jemma was born at 7 lbs 8 oz and weighed 6lbs 15oz yesterday. She is breastfed so the doc assured me that she is okay but they want to make sure she starts gaining weight. I have noticed that since I have become engorged, she has more trouble latching on and gets frustrated trying. As much as I didn’t want to, I decided to start using a shield again. I used our infant scale this morning and weighed her and then again at bedtime. She has gained about 2 to 3 ounces today!! She has had several wet and dirty diapers too. I am very hopeful that this means we may be able to avoid supplementing like I did with Joley (pumped daily to have a bottle of breastmilk for her every night).
Also, the doctor’s office did their first measurements and the hospital was a bit off on Jemma’s length. I am confident in the doc’s measurement so my little baby girl really is little. She is only 17 inches long! She is a little peanut!
I will give updates as I can. I am healing but it is going to take awhile after having the hernia surgery too. I am in a lot of pain. A lot. Jemma sees the doctor again Monday… please think good thoughts for a good amount of weight gain!

I am sure she is going to gain weight. She is so precious and good news on the test. Hope you are able to rest and only take care of Jemma.
