As a Catholic, one of the most important days in my kids’ lives is the day they make their First Holy Communion. For Joley, that was last Saturday, May 6th. She was so excited leading up to the big day and had every detail planned out. She decided she wanted to wear the dress I wore for my First Communion, a day I still remember. Here is me in the dress when I was in second grade.
And here is Joley in the same dress.
When I mentioned to my favorite priest (seen below) that she was wearing the same dress, he remarked how nice that was. I said it said a lot about her that she wanted to wear it and he said that it says a lot about me. I loved to hear that. My girl loves me so much she wanted to wear something that I wore on my special day.
The day went off without a hitch and things were just perfect for her special day. I was so proud to see her walk down the aisle, her hands held up in the prayer position. She looked so beautiful.
She was chosen to be a gift bearer. She did a great job!
After the ceremony, we stepped outside into the beautiful weather and had some additional pictures taken and then a few inside church as well.
In a few short years, Jemma will be getting her First Communion and I am hopeful she will want to wear the dress too. I love the tradition that may have been started with Joley. Either way though, I thought she looked beautiful and I am so proud of the big girl she is becoming.
After the mass and pictures, Joley wasn’t feeling well so we headed home for a bit. She wore her dress to 5pm mass that night to share her special sacrament with the congregation (as all the first communicants did over the weekend). We then headed to my parents’ house for a cake and a few presents from her Godparents and Grandparents. She had a great day!
