Life as a teenager is hard. I know because I hear about it often. Let me share some of the proof with you:
- Do you know that texting can ruin your manicure? Or how about texting hurting your thumbs? It’s true. Oh, and there is a new language and how dare anyone say that “ur” is not a word. It is! I swear it is.
If u don’t believe me, ur crazy.
- Don’t even say that a letter is a form of communication.  That is what email and texting is for. Sheesh.
- Did you know that if you don’t have every color of Old Navy flip-flops you can’t possibly complete an outfit? But, you have to buy them new each year. You can’t be walking around with worn flip-flops. Oh, and just because today leggings are in style doesn’t mean that it looked okay on you in the 80s. Same clothes and all but teens today look so much better. The same is true for hair styles. Cool now was just hideous then.
- How about this one… did you know how hard it is to find sources for your school work on the internet? I mean there is so much to see. How are you supposed to decide? It can take for-ev-er to find what you need. Oh, and what the heck are you talking about… encyclopedias are not books. Oh, did you mean Wikipedia?
- Every time a number is dialed, there is a buzzing sound. There must be something wrong with the phone! HELP!   What do you mean that is a busy signal? Call waiting is there so you never miss a call, right? There was a time when you couldn’t talk to multiple people at the same times? Well, waiting for that buzzing to stop is just too much. The phone must be broken because no one would go without call waiting.
- Wait, don’t answer that phone! We need to see who it is first. What, you used to not have caller ID? How in the world did you know who was calling? What if it is someone you don’t want to talk to? Why wouldn’t you just never answer the phone and just let voicemail pick it up. NO voicemail? Are you kidding me??? We have to know who is calling because it might be someone that we don’t want to talk to… and we will just text them instead.
- What is a pager? Is that like a mini-cell phone? Why were cell phones so huge?? Why did they have to stay in a car? Well, cell phones now are hard to use. With internet, full-keyboards, cameras… there is just a lot to learn. Everyone has one and they are all so different. It is a big job to have to know how to work all these phones. And, don’t even start with MP3 and Ipods. That just makes more “work”.
That’s right friends. Life as a teenager today is hard. I don’t know how they manage. *sigh*
(please note the sarcasm!)

do you guys even understand how incredibly rude this is? I’m a teenager and not all of us are spoiled brats. and the way society is right now, it’s so fucked up, you would never understand. everyday, I go through suicidal and self harm thoughts. I’m usually depressed. in my life, I’ve had lots of misfortune- nothing EVER goes my way. and I’ve learned that wishing and tears does not fix anything. crying myself to sleep wont fix the fact that my parents are divorced and I miss my mom every second of the day. I haven’t seen her in years. nor will it fix the fact that my father doesn’t have time for me- always breaking promises that he makes to me and coming home late. some days, I don’t even see him at all. it won’t change that im not accepted by society and have few friends. or that I don’t have a perfect body or face. in order to be accepted by society right now, you have to be perfect. no kidding, you have to have a boyfriend, the cutest clothes, a flawless face, the perfect body, and lots of money. just how the typical popular girl is defined. but what about those girls who aren’t those popular girls? we play low, avoiding people so we won’t get physically or verbally bullied. our self-esteem is so incredibly low. we wish we those perfect people. we wish we were born with the easier life with no worries because they’re already accepted by society because they were born pretty. i actually came on the Internet to try to find ways I can deal with society and accept myself for who I am, and I find this. you don’t understand.

Oh MAN. I know.
I got my girlfriend who has a thirteen year old a magnet that said, “I love my rotten, ungrateful children”. It’s so totally true.
Teenagers have got it ROUGH!

I love this post!
I’m reading a book, Frindle by Andrew Clements with my 7 year old son. Just last night he asked me what an encyclopedia is and if we were going to get them. ?? When we were kids, we had TWO sets – one for the adults and one for the kids – just like in the book! Who needs an encyclopedia when you have Google?

oh man… Sounds like the world has taken over. I know the feeling though. My brother and sister get on my parents case all the time. That old navy thing is just too funny… All I can say is that with age this get better. Not really for them but for you. Because they learn to love what they have instead of want more. Good luck!

Great post Stefany! Too funny! Teenagers might not think so if they read it! I remember going through a lot of this with my daughter before she went off to college!
