Johnny, my Kindergartener, has started to have homework each week. The teacher sends home a packet or work and the kids are supposed to do one sheet a night and we send the packet back in to school on Friday. I decided to turn Johnny’s desk, which I found very cheap at a garage sale, into a full learning area. The desk is the perfect fit for him. The cork board above his desk is a great place to show off his (and his sister’s because she can’t be left out) work. I was able to add his “super star” bookmark that he received last week already. I added a file folder (taped on the sides) to the bulletin board to hold his packet of work each week so that we can keep track of it and it doesn’t get messed up. He was so excited to see his work space this afternoon!

Such a cute work area for them and it’s good to keep his folder neat like that.

Thanks Deborah!

I turned an ancient desk I found at a thrift store into a work table for Kaitlyn, whose also starting Kindergarten (less than 2 weeks!). I’m going to steal your idea for the corkboard and attaching the weekly folder to it, great idea!
Stefany says
Elizabeth, the folder had been great. I know that we wouldn’t be able to keep track of his work or keep it nice. This makes it very easy. And, he loves that the board will hold all his “good stuff”. 🙂

Nice meeting you! I LOVE your desk and organization ideas. As a teacher and school psychologist I can tell you – you did a SUPER job. It is so important to teach organization skills – to teach kids there are places and times for everything. I can’t wait until my next visit to hear more about your wonderful ideas!
Stefany says
Thank you Meryl! I appreciate you stopping by!

Very cute. My little guy has an old ikea kids table that I bought second hand. It has worked great for him so far. Kids don’t care about having fancy stuff if they are just going to be doing work at it. 🙂
Stefany says
That is the beauty of kids.. they don’t care about fancy stuff at all. Too bad there aren’t more adults like that!
BusyWorkingMama says

What a perfect little workstation! I wish I had eyes to see the possibilities in old stuff :).
Stefany says
Oh Anna, me too. LOL This wasn’t hard to see but I envy some of these people that can make a play kitchen out of an old entertainment center (or something like that).
Jennifer M says

Thank you Jennifer!

UGH…homework in Kindergarten!
Stefany says
It is actually okay. I like to know if he is having problems before they are habits . It isn’t much at all and he likes it.
kewkew says
That is a great little work area, I especially love the file folder idea.

Melissa says
Wow, that is so cool! I think my 3 year old would love it!
Stefany says
Melissa, we have had the desk for some time. That is actually a problem though because the little one is having trouble seeing it as her brother’s “work” desk now. ha!
Lisa says
what a great lil area
Stefany says
Thanks Lisa!

What a great and very cute idea!

That is so cute! I never realized Step 2 made desks. We have a kitchen…now I want to go find something similar for my Kindergartener. Can’t wait until she brings home homework!
Stefany says
I didn’t know until after I bought this one either. I think the newer ones are more “kid-like” but they are so nice and durable! I am sure you will able to find something… I have seen several on our local Craigslist. 🙂 Good luck!
Mrs. Cox says
What a great space!! Love it.
Stefany says
Thank you!
Jennifer says
Love it! I just got a HUGE board just like that at Michaels for $7 with a coupon and have several ideas on what to do with it. I need to get a move on!
Stefany says
I hit up the dollar store for all the letters and decorations. I need to change it out to a different design but I am waiting until fall comes. lol Have fun with yours!
Amanda M. says
I love that! I was just thinking today that I need to set up a learning center.
Stefany says
Good luck! I love that he has “his” place to do things. The kitchen table was just not working because he isn’t big enough. He does the stuff I need to help him with there but anything he can do on his own is done at his desk.
Cassie W. says
Very Cool. I am currently redoing our office so my kindergartener has a place to do homework. So far we haven’t gotten any though.
Stefany says
We got our first packet this week. We get a few pages on Monday and then turn them in on Friday. It is okay but man, it is hard to get him to concentrate at home with little sister running around!
Kristi {at} Live and Love Out Loud says
What a great work area! He’ll love studying at his new desk. 🙂
Stefany says
It is hard to get him to understand that what used to be a dropping place for their crap is now his desk. lol He is doing okay though.
Mom2Michael says
This workstation is a great idea. I love how you did the corkboard
Stefany says
Thank you! I had this up last year too and put all his fun arts and crafts projects from preschool on it. I love that both he and I can see all the great things he does and his progress. 🙂

I love his work station!
The owners before us left an old desk. I turned it into a changing table! It was so perfect because the hole in the middle I used for a hamper.
Stefany says
What a cool idea!!! I love old desks but anything you can re-purpose like that is neat in my book.
Tammi says
That is the perfect desk!!! If you find it online, let me know!!!
Stefany says
Tammi, it is an old Step 2 desk. It was missing a drawer and is definitely not new but it is perfect for Johnny.
