Mackenzie has a field trip today. She is headed off to Jefferson City for a fun-filled day in our state capital. She was excited and packed a bag of books to read and things to do. I threw in a Hallmark card to let her know I am thinking about her and her camera so she can take some pictures of her big day.
Mike usually leaves before she was to be gone, but I asked him if he would stay home an extra 20 minutes to allow me to get some sleep. He agreed and that was the plan. I would get to sleep until my normal wake-up time and he would get up and get Mackenzie out of the house (she was being picked up by a friend’s mom who is a chaperone because they had to be at school by 6:45am).
His alarm started going off at its normal time of 5-something. REALLY? Mackenzie had to be up at 6:25a and the alarm is set for 5-something? So thoughtful that he is, he allowed it to keep going off until after 6am. Then, the alarm woke the baby who wouldn’t go back to sleep (we hear her on the monitor) so he proceeded to ask me over and over if I wanted to feed her. Finally, I gave up and said I would feed her, hoping she would go back to sleep when I was done. He went to get her with his alarm (cell phone) in his pocket and it proceeded to go off in her room. Baby was awake.
I feed her and she was up… like, ready-for-the-day up. By the way, it wasn’t even 6:20am yet. She was being good though and we were cuddling and talking so I just let her stay with me for the time being, knowing she was getting sleepy again and would go back to bed. Mike’s alarm went off again. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? It startled the baby and she started to whine because it apparently scared her. Off to bed she went because she was no longer happy being with me… and who can blame her with so much noise in there.
I had now lost all hope of a little more rest. It was time for Mackenzie to get up and to wait for her ride so I decided to just get up and do it myself (since Mike had made sure I was wide awake anyways). I told him to go ahead and go to work… I could handle it. He proceeded to drink his coffee and mess around (aka annoy the crap out of me) for another 20 minutes until I had enough and told him to LEAVE! So, what does he do? Takes just enough time to get in the car so that he gets stuck when Mackenzie’s ride shows up. Of course, he can’t resist the opportunity to stop and chat… right under the kids’ windows.
Guess what happens next. Come on, guess…
Yep. Joley was up again because she heard him outside. Johnny apparently woke up too and is now a crabby kid. Joley finally fell back asleep but has been restless so I imagine she is going to be a crab today too.
To my dear husband,
Thanks for the “help” today honey. If I had known you were going to be so “helpful” I wouldn’t have asked you to stay home to get Mackenzie off to school. By the way, since you wasted so much time, you could have just brought her to school yourself. Oh, and one more thing. I swear that I am going to break your damn phone in half the next time the alarm goes off for that long. You are not the only one being woken up by the incessant noise. Learn to get out of bed when the alarm goes off because an hour of alarms is ridiculous!!
Love,
Your exhausted wife
p.s. I love you.
ETA: A friend of mine told me that this was harsh. I really wasn’t meaning to be harsh and we were laughing this morning. I know Mike will understand that this is all in fun but I wanted you all to know that too. This isn’t the first time I have posted about the alarms. It is an ongoing issue in our household. I know Mike tries to help. I was/am just exhausted and my words may be sounding harsh… what was meant was sarcasm really. Words may not always appear on the screen the way they are meant.
