Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for the purpose of review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Synopsis
Allie Marshall, PA student, and Dr. Donovan Callahan have overcome such intense drama in their short relationship. Dealing with thoughts of Claire, his ex who sits in jail for murdering her husband, to Allie’s secret past, has been extremely stressful. From the day they met, it has been hot and heavy; both of them giving into their wants and needs. The pair have thrown caution to the wind and …just went with their hearts. All seems well, finally, and Allie is letting go of her insecurities, which could ultimately threaten to be her downfall. That is, until someone from Donovan’s past decides to make a surprise and unwelcome appearance at a wedding the couple attends. A shocking announcement is made that will force Allie to question everything about Donovan– his honesty, his character, even his feelings for her. Will this be the final straw, or will this be a test of strength of their feelings for each other?

My Thoughts
I recently read Overwhelm Me by A.C. Marchman and knew I had to read Stay With Me. It was an ending I wasn’t going to forget about and move on from! So, I was super happy to know that Stay With Me is available. A.C. Marchman sent me a copy of Stay With Me and I dug into it as soon as I could.
The characters… our main two characters are Allie and Donovan. While I like them both quite a bit, I had some trouble with the quickness of their relationship. It just seemed sooo fast to me. I know it is about knowing who you love and “fate”, if you will, but it was so quick for me. That is beside the point though.. together they are good and that is what matters. They have an intense relationship both in the bedroom and out of it. I worried from time to time that their relationship is a purely physical one but by the end of Stay With Me, that feeling is not as strong.
Allie is a really intelligent girl but she really acts like a ditz sometimes, in my opinion. I want her to be an assertive and strong-minded woman. By the end of Stay With Me, she seems to get that back and you see glimpses of it from time to time throughout the book. I think the problem is twofold… one, her past is not a pretty one. Her ex-boyfriend is a real jerk and did her wrong on so many levels. Her trust issues are deep and troubling. Two, she is so head-over-heels for Donovan that she seems to let him get away with shit he shouldn’t (in my opinion). She takes his answers at face value instead of questioning him. Like I said, by the end of this book, she seems to have a better handle on her emotions and speaks up for herself more and it makes me happy.
Donovan seems like a dream to me. I am not sure who I picture him as but I guarantee it is someone HOT. The way A.C. Marchman portrays him is as a handsome, self-assured man which I just love. I love that he is a doctor too but not one that is self-centered. He has a life outside of his practice and he loves with all of himself. His relationship with Allie was super sweet and he seemed to really go out of his way to make her happy. This is a trait that I just loved. I hated though that he lied to her and continued to do so. I wanted to somehow tell him how much he was messing up, especially with someone like her who has trust issues to begin with.
This book had a lot of ups and downs in it. You get to meet Jackson (I’m not telling who he is!) and all of the members of both families in this book. It makes for some very interesting scenes. The one other person I want to mention in this review is Donna. Donna is Donovan’s stepmother and a person I couldn’t stand from the first moment we are introduced to her. She was such a wicked, evil person. I am sure she will have a large part in the next book because of how Stay With Me ended. I was totally taken by surprise at the ending of this one… like totally! That is a big thing for me because I am notorious for guessing how things go and A.C. Marchman really threw me for a loop with this one.
I am so looking forward to book 3 in the Callahan Series. If it is anything like the first two books, I am sure to enjoy it. I gave Stay With Me 4.5 shining stars. This book has a lot of story and character development so you need to pay attention as you read but it is worth your time! I read this book in a short day because it held my attention and wouldn’t let go!
