Lately, I have been craving coffee. For the majority of my pregnancy thus far, coffee and I have not been friends. That is, until I learned about iced coffee. It all started with the purchase of some iced tea k-cups for my Keurig. I started drinking some tea each day. (I know that caffeine isn’t great during pregnancy but I also keep it below the recommended maximum daily intake. A girl does what a girl has to do… and I have to have some caffeine to ward off headaches.)
Anyway, my tea addiction quickly turned into an iced coffee addiction with the purchase of some iced coffee k-cups. Have I mentioned before my LOVE, ADORATION, and LUST for my Keurig? That little machine is my baby and I am such a happy mama to have it. Well, after talking to a friend, Joanna, I learned that I could save some money but using a bold blend coffee instead of the iced ones. You see, the iced coffees come 16 in a box, whereas the regular coffee comes 18 in a box. That is, unless you are an addict like we are and buy your coffee in bulk from the big bulk stores. Our local Costco and Sam’s Club sell some yummy varieties, including our favorite, Newman’s Own Special Blend- Extra Bold.
You see, what is really yummy as regular coffee is absolutely delicious as an iced coffee. I fill my cup up to the top with ice. Then let the k-cup brew with the middle size button (I think that is probably 8oz but I am not 100% sure). Once the coffee is brewed, I add one pack of sweetener (I prefer Splenda) and some french vanilla liquid creamer.
And that, my friends, is heaven in a cup. Sorry for the bad pic quality, but you get the idea.
Keurig users, have you used any other varieties of coffee to make iced coffee? Besides the iced ones and Newman’s, I have tried a few including Kona, a French Vanilla kind (really good but we have no more), and Caribou. I would love to know your recommendations!
