I’ve mentioned before that my kids are hypoglycemic. That means that they need protein on a pretty regular basis in order to keep their blood sugar up. The hard part of that is finding snacks that they can bring to school that contain enough protein without having peanut butter (not allowed in the classroom). Thankfully, Slim Jim‘s are available for them and they love them!

We decided to get ready for the holidays with a fun activity that allows the kids to have their daily snack and count down to Christmas. They love to do the countdown each year and we usually just do a paper chain. I thought we could do something different this year and Slim Jim’s make it so easy! They come in a pack of 26 at Walmart, making them perfect for a Christmas Countdown! The bonus is that I can have a couple of these delicious bold and spicy snacks. I prefer them over other sweet or salty snacks like chips or cookies.

Make a Slim Jim Countdown

To do this we used some cling wrap and ribbon. It was so simple to make! Simple pull out some cling wrap and tie a knot on the end. Add your Slim Jim and roll it up. Tie a knot with ribbon at the other end. Keep doing this for 24 days (the days left until Christmas).

Then each day you can cut one of the Slim Jim’s off or open up the cling wrap and enjoy the delicious treat!

Want some other ideas? You could create an Advent Calendar with a poster board. Write out a calendar for the month and tape a Slim Jim in each day. Every day you will get to enjoy a Slim Jim and get excited for the coming holiday! They are also the perfect stocking stuffer!

Do you love Slim Jim’s as much as we do? What snacks could you give up and replace with the bold taste of Slim Jim’s?
