As a nurse, I see my fair share of people with advanced directives at the time of illness or death. But, I also see those that do not have advanced directives. Let me tell you, this is not a good thing. It is very hard on the families and friends of that person to make those decisions for them. It is a time of great emotional upheaval and having to make decisions during that period is something no one should have to do. I always encourage my patients and their families to get advanced directives that will make the decisions of illness or death easier on their families and friends.
MyDirectives.com is the very first HIPAA compliant web-based system for creating & storing advance medical directives and is endorsed by Baylor, the 5th largest health care system in the US. Individuals can create and update their documents at any time. Without an advance medical directive family members and health care providers are left with difficult choices, but storing medical wishes and emergency info online means you’ll get to have the final say.
This brings up another situation I have seen. Just because you tell someone what you want to happen in the event of an unexpected illness or death, it doesn’t mean they will follow it. The only way you can be certain your wishes are met is if you take the time to put them in writing. Using My Directives creates an easy process for you that can allow you to rest easy knowing your wishes will be known to those you love.
Be sure to check it out and make the choice to be proactive in your decisions!
