I had some time on my hands and I made these nursing covers. The first one was practice. I will use it but will probably keep it in the diaper bag or as an extra. I realized things I didn’t like about the tutorial and changed them for the second one. The second one I like a lot and it is going to go into my hospital bag.
Here are my suggestions for changes to the pattern…
I used interfacing on the straps because I thought they were too thin the first time and slipped out of the d-rings too easily. Plus, I just think it feels better.
They don’t specifiy, but I prefer the longer strap on the left and the shorter on the right.
I made the long strap about 25″ and kept the other 10″. I made them 5″ wide and sewed them the way I do all straps for bags (fold in half and iron, then half again on both sides and iron… refold in half). I then tucked the ends of one end to make a point then just sewed up along the open edge. That works best for me.
I hemmed the sides and then pinned the top. Make sure you leave enough room for your boning and that the boning is going the right way. I know some people claimed that they had to sew the boning in place. I didn’t but when I made a second sewed line above the first to secure the straps, I made sure it was low enough that the boning couldn’t slip through anymore.
