Disclosure: I was provided an all-expenses paid trip to Springfield, MO thanks to the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Recently, I was treated to a very special and fun weekend. I live in Missouri and there are so many great cities here. One of those is Springfield. It had been many, many years since I had been to Springfield and I was so excited to go and see the sights and try some of the fabulous restaurants there. Over the next few days, I will tell you more about my trip but this post is going to focus on the delicious food I ate while there. Now, I am going to be honest with you. I am not a food photographer. I am not the one that whips out my camera or phone with every meal. But I do have a lot to say about what I was served in Springfield.
My first meal in Springfield was actually in my hotel! I ate at Fire and Ice and got to know the other fabulous ladies that were on the trip too. We had delicious appetizers and a fantastic meal. I tried flash fried spinach for the first time and am still craving it. What a delicious treat! I had an amazing burger that filled me up. With its fun atmosphere and fantastic food, Fire and Ice was a great restaurant to start my trip!
The first restaurant we went to on Saturday was in the Relics Antique Mall. Yep, you heard that right. There is a restaurant, the Tea Room at Relics, right in the middle of the antique mall. I wasn’t sure what to expect but was so, so happy with what I received. For my meal, I wasn’t sure what to get so I asked the waitress. You know that your wait staff knows what is good, right? I decided on the Chicken Waldorf and wow! was I impressed! It was seriously the best sandwich I have had in some time and my mouth is watering right now thinking about it. But, what really stands out for me about that visit was the dessert. I had the Lemon Berry Mascarpone Cake. It had cranberries and blueberries with a mascarpone cheese icing. If I could make a trip to Springfield right now, that is one thing I would stop and get. It is quite honestly the best dessert I have ever had.
The next place on our visit was Askinosie Chocolates. You walk in this place and it smells divine. They make all their own chocolates and they were delicious (the ones I tried that is but I bet they all are). We were able to try several different kinds and I even bought some to bring home (that I have been eating very slowly to savor them). There are stories behind the chocolates and the owner actually travels to foreign lands to develop them. Amazing place and amazing chocolates here!
Next, we ate dinner. We were in downtown Springfield where there was a lot happening and tons of people. We ended up at Civil Kitchen and Tap. I was really tempted to get a beer with all their options but chose not to. I ended up getting a delicious meal of a fried chicken sandwich with fries, but what really stood out was again, the dessert. You see, I have never had creme brulee but ordered it at the suggestion of my new friends that I was visiting with in Springfield. It was fantastic! I was told by the others that it was the best creme brulee they have had. It was so good! I will be heading back to Civil Kitchen and Tap if I ever head to Springfield again. From the appetizers to the dessert, they delivered a delicious treat for my taste buds.
On Sunday, we started our day at Hurts Donuts. I LOVED this place, but I am a sucker for a good donut. From your average glazed donut to a candy-coated treat, Hurts Donuts has it all.

I had a delicious coconut donut that was seriously the best donut I have ever had. But, there were so many to choose from that I knew I had to bring some home for the family. I had some cereal topped donuts, another coconut one, and a few other special treats in my suitcase for the kids. They were excited and so was I. These donuts were and still are my favorite donuts ever. I have never tasted such a delicious cake donut, not even counting the delicious topping. If you are in Springfield, you need to make a stop at Hurts Donuts.
The final restaurant we stopped at on my trip to Springfield was Aviary Cafe and Creperie. Now, I admit to not being an adventurous eater and I had never had crepes before. I even considered getting something else because Aviary offers more than just crepes but I knew that I needed to try something different on this fun trip. I looked through the savory crepes and decided on the delicious Is It Morning crepes with pommes frites. I am so glad I went out on a taste bud limb and gave the crepes a try because they certainly didn’t disappoint. This place had a fun atmosphere and delicious food. I know that I will be eating more crepes in my future and visiting Aviary Cafe if I get back to Springfield.
We ate so many delicious places and I had a great time trying out the eats and treats of Springfield, MO.
I want to give a huge thanks to Susan and The Springfield Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for treating me to this fabulous weekend and Missouri Women Bloggers for setting it up. I also want to say thank you to the fabulous ladies I met on my trip for making it so enjoyable.
