Living with an 8 year old boy means that I know all about monsters, zombies, and other creepy things. That is why I knew Johnny would be so excited when the Monster 500 came to our door. He was enthralled with the playsets before we even had them out of the box and broke out the vehicles immediately.
So what are Monster 500?
Monster 500 is a unique line of highly collectible, wonderfully fiendish monster characters driving small and large vehicles, plus two fabulously freaky playsets. The characters marry a child’s love of cars with the ghoulish and gross—the perfect combo! Each vehicle aligns with the Monster 500 app, which allows fans to bring their favorite monster characters to life in an action-packed racing game.
I pulled out the playset we had, the Monster 500™ Toxic Terror Trap Playset and started putting it together. It was easy enough to put together and reminded me of track sets that I played with as a child. The concept is simple. You press on the top and an elevator rises. Your small Monster 500 vehicle will be sitting on the elevator and go down the track, ending up passing through the doors of the freaky factory and then toppling the toxic, terrorizing monster… all while avoiding being gobbled by the mutant gator! This playset is available at Toys ‘R Us for $34.99.
You can purchase individual small vehicles for this and other play sets for $4.99 each or a pack of 3 for $14.99.
If your children love the vehicles, you can also buy large vehicles that are 4 inches high and 5 inches long. These are so fun because you can press on them in a designated spot and they will play scary-good lights and sounds. These are available for $14.99 each at Toys ‘R Us. We received a Flattop Frank and he has been played with a lot since he came out of the packaging.
Now is where the kids had the most fun.. the Monster 500™ Graveyard Gauntlet Track Set. This was super simple to put together and was played with for hours the first time we brought it out. The top of the track is a skull that you attach to any surface (like a table, counter, or other area with a lip. We attached it to our entertainment center.
Off the vehicles go (one is included in the set)! They have to go through the gauntlet, or pendulum of peril, without being stopped!
They then rush through to the ending… another skull. The winner will go into the jaws of doom and one of the bones will pop up announcing the winner. The eyes will bulge out too.
This fun track is available at Toys ‘R Us for $19.99. The kids, including the girls, really enjoyed playing with it.
See it in action!
There is more though! With each small vehicle, your child will get a trading card. Each trading card has a Monster 500™ Code that unlocks a monster car in the FREE Monster 500™ Racing App. In the app, you can fight other monsters as you navigate the death-defying tracks to the finish. Pick up weapons, avoid toxic spills and other creepy obstacles as you race. The App is FREE at the App Store and Google play.
All in all, we have really enjoyed playing with the Monster 500 sets and cars. Johnny said that he thinks it is “so cool” and will be wanting to get more vehicles to use on the playsets. I am overall happy with the Monster 500 as well, except the Evil Clownevil because I really, really dislike clowns! ha!
You can connect with Monster 500 on Facebook and Twitter.

These looks like fun. Kiddo isn’t super girly girl and I have a feeling, given her car and monster collection, she would love something like this.

My 4 year old is obsessed with Halloween and everything that he says is “creepy”. These are so perfect for him! I love that they are so interactive that he could spend a lot of time making the little cars go down tracks.

Oh my–I know almost all little boys and some girls would absolutely love this play set. I would not have been one of them! Just call me a scaredy cat!! I would definitely purchase this as a gift if I knew someone age appropriate (then run like the devil and let his/her parents play it with them!)
