I was debating whether or not to put up a Christmas tree at all this year. With the baby coming and all, I wasn’t sure I wanted to deal with it. Plus, I wasn’t sure where to put it because my sewing cabinet is where it normally goes. My dad asked me why it couldn’t go in the toy room and that made sense… with no daycare kids here, that works!
So, I dragged the tree up the stairs this morning, put it all together, brought the box back down, brought up the ornaments and trimmings and put those on, and brought that box back down. I even set up the Fisher Price Little People Nativity Set which I am thinking is going to be a big headache with missing pieces. Mike’s kids are HORRIBLE about putting things back where they belong. HORRIBLE! It drives me crazy. I left the box upstairs so maybe things will be kept together… wishful thinking I am betting though.
Every year when we put up the tree it brings back memories. Mike and I got this tree the first year we were together. We actually had a tiny one in our first apartment but we bought this one on clearance after the holiday and kept it. So, technically, we put it up our second year living together. It isn’t a great tree, but it is still working (pre-lit) and doesn’t look horrible. I am happy every year to get it out and see it light up and remember all the years we have been together with this tree. I will be sad when it quits.
Johnny is going to be a handful this year with the tree. He has already tried to drive his cars through it and has taken a monster truck to the nativity set. Oh, and I just had to tell him again that the nativity set needs to stay under the tree. I know that it will be long gone if he brings it away. But, did you know that baby Jesus likes to drive in monster trucks? He does. Believe me. I can see it with my own two eyes right now. 😉
No more decorating for a bit for me though. I will put the stockings up later in the month. I don’t need those pulled on and messed with for 3 weeks plus. I put Santa on the front door but that will likely be it this year. I normally put garland around the banisters and I might get some energy later on… but not yet.
So, I am off to make lunch. It has been a busy morning!
