This is Lucky. I have talked about her several times before because she is my big baby. We adopted Lucky after I saw her on the news one in May of 2008. They had said that she had special needs and was missing a leg. I immediately was in love with her and started the arrangements for adoption. Lucky came to live with us about a week later.
Lucky is a wonderful dog. She whines occasionally and has been known to get into things she isn’t supposed to. Overall though, she is a great dog. She is so good with the kids and other pets as well.
Last night, Mike told me that Lucky wasn’t using her back leg. She only has the one back leg so this was a big concern. I checked out her leg and didn’t see anything wrong and since it was late, we gave her a pain pill and she fell asleep. This morning, she still wasn’t using her back leg. Mike brought her to the emergency vet.
Bad news followed. Lucky has a slipped disc in her back. She was given a pain shot and pain pills for home. We have a sling we are supposed to use on her back end so that she doesn’t have to put pressure back there trying to hold herself up. She is 73 pounds so that makes it very difficult for her to move around on one leg in back. She isn’t too fond of having the sling around her but is accepting it so far.
The hope is that she will get better and no more problems arise. The fear is that this slipped disc will continue to cause her problems or she will have it reoccur if it does heal. Right now, we are definitely hoping for the best… but we will do whatever necessary to help her. I am foreseeing a wagon with wheels for her back end some day. Have you ever seen those?
Oh yeah. I would totally do that for her.
Please think good thoughts for my big baby girl. I hate to see her hurting.
