We live very close to a Schnucks grocery store, and for this reason, it is one of our main places to go for food for our family. They have wonderful fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs… all at prices we can afford. I am going to be sharing a recipe with you today but wanted to first share a herb hack with you. If you buy herbs often, you know that they can wilt quickly if not properly cared for. I am going to tell you how to do just that… care for your fresh herbs so they are ready to use and last longer! Then, keep reading to see how I use fresh herbs in a delicious chili recipe, all with ingredients bought at Schnucks!
When, you come home with your herbs, pull them out of their plastic bag from the store and remove any rubber bands or other gathering products. Rinse your herbs under cool water and gently shake excess water off. Next, place the herbs in a paper towel and roll it up gently. Place the rolled up herbs in a sealed bag, removing air before closing. When it is time to use your herbs, you will simply remove them from the bag and unroll the paper towel. Your herbs will be crisp, clean, and delicious!
One of our favorite meals in the cool-weather months is chili. My family loves to eat it and I enjoy preparing it. I make this meal in my slow cooker making it simple to prepare and not worry about all day!
To start, you are going to want to have the following ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground turkey
2 cans diced tomatoes (seasoned for chili are best)
1 can tomato sauce
1-2 cans of dark red kidney beans
2 envelopes chili seasoning (I used Schnucks brand)
1 medium green pepper
1 medium yellow onion
fresh italian parsley (flat leaf) for garnish
fresh cilantro
water
cheese (if you desire for adding to finished chili)
Start by cooking your meats and onion together until fully cooked. Add to slow cooker.
Add diced green pepper.
Add cans of diced tomatoes.
Add can of tomato sauce.
Add can(s) of dark red kidney beans. We aren’t huge fans of beans so we only use one can for our recipe.
Add seasoning packets. Why not take this small help when you can?!? Schnucks already prepared the perfect amount of seasoning for me so I will use their help.
Add small amount of water; enough to get the consistency you want for your chili.
Add diced up cilantro. I use about 6-7 sprigs of cilantro for our recipe.
Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 in your slow cooker.
When ready to eat, add some cheese (I like cheddar) and some diced up Italian parsley.
If you are near a Schnucks, I encourage you to head there. From fresh produce to delicious canned goods, Schnucks has everything you need for your favorite meals. For us, sitting down to a fantastic home-cooked meal is very important. It nourishes our family’s bond and allows us to spend time together in our busy lives. Between many soccer practices, my busy work schedule, and the kids’ schooling, it seems we are all going in different directions. Having a meal together is the perfect way to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Chili is one of those feel-good meals we enjoy.

I LOVE that lifehack you gave! Perfect for the season, great for fresh herbs, and definitely great for those winter months when you can’t grow fresh ones! Plus, who doesn’t love a steaming pot of chili for the holiday season? Delicious! #client
