We recently decided to try a different restaurant local here to St Charles county. It is about 20 minutes from my house and something I had been hearing about for some time. We headed out to The Tattooed Dog.
The Tattooed Dog in Wentzville was on our radar for some time so we were excited to go. As you know me to be, I will be honest with you. I was a bit worried that it wasn’t family friendly when we pulled up. If I hadn’t already known by someone telling me, I may have left thinking the kids wouldn’t be welcome there. You see, there is a bar/saloon next door and, when we pulled up, there were a bunch of motorcycles. I have nothing against bikers… but it was not screaming “kids welcome here!” in my mind upon first glance. The restaurant was not labeled on the side at all. Let me just say, I am so glad we went in and it definitely is kid-friendly!
When you walk in, you are greeted with a friendly atmosphere with art on the walls and the entire menu in chalk on the back wall.
The menu is colorful and there are a number of items to choose from. The most ordered item on the menu? The Philly. Being the rebel I am, I decided to go with something else. I can’t ever pass up a good burger! The kids menu was separate and they had 4 meals to choose from (cheeseburger, grilled cheese, quesadilla, and cheese fries). Each kid’s meal comes with fries and drink for $4.99.
Remember all that art on the walls, well it is all for sale. There is a sign on every table explaining such!
Now for what WE ordered! Each burger is ordered as “pink” or “no pink” so you get to decide how it is made. My husband always gets his as pink as he can get it and I get just a little pink.
Mike is all about bacon so he chose the Porkonator. Talk about bacon! The Porkonator is 6 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of American cheese, spring greens, and roasted garlic aioli on a corn dusted Kaiser. Mike said the bacon was crispy and he liked the mixed greens on it. He said it was really, really good. This burger was $10.25.
I decided on the Maui Burger. It is grilled pineapple, white American, teriyaki wasabi glaze, roasted garlic aioli, spring greens on a pretzel bun. I was worried about the “wasabi” part of the glaze but the waitress was very helpful and assured me that it is not spicy and that the glaze is actually sweet. I am so glad I chose this one because it was fantastic. The burger was juicy, the greens crisp, and the pretzel bun amazing. Oh and that sauce? So good! My burger was $9.95.
You can check out their menu here. We didn’t see a liquor menu because we weren’t interested in drinking but they serve a number of craft beers here as well as the favorites every St Louisan loves! Fountain drinks are $1.99 with free refills (the waitress did a great job of keeping our drinks filled!).
A little history for you… Chef Josh Lemmon is the same guy behind the food truck Burger Ink. You can see the truck right in the parking lot when you pull up.
Now I don’t know anything about the food truck business, but Josh really hit a home run with the restaurant! If you are in or around Wentzville, MO, I encourage you to give The Tattooed Dog a try. Bring your kids and have a good time! You won’t be disappointed.
Dress is casual. Hours of operation are Tues – Thurs from 11am to 8pm and Friday and Sat from 11am to 9pm. They also offer take-out service if you would rather bring your meal home!
You can find The Tattooed Dog at 404 Luetkenhaus Blvd, Wentzville MO 63385.
For more information or questions, give them a call at 636-887-2178.
FYI- We were not compensated in any way for this review. We paid for the meal ourselves. I am sharing because we enjoyed the food!
