It seems that I remember to drink water all summer because, well it’s hot. But the winter comes along and I seem to forget all about the necessity of drinking water. As a nurse, I know especially how important water is to the body. It helps your entire body thrive and heal, it keeps your skin healthy, and keeps you feeling great. But, drinking water is not something that comes easy for many people. I have a few ideas to help you get the most water you can in your daily life!

Here are some tips to help you increase your water intake:
1. Drink your water throughout the day. Trying to catch up at the end of the day is never a good idea because then you’ll be up all night making trips to the bathroom. Know how much you need to drink and spread it out throughout the day.
2. Drink water with meals. It sounds simple enough, right? Drinking water with meals is a great way to increase your water intake. The consumption of food makes you thirsty so grab some water!
3. Keep track of how much water you are drinking. This is something I have always struggled with. I forget how much I have drank that day or just assume I have had enough. I have seen several apps that remind you to drink water (one that has a sound that is like water pouring). These are good ideas if you forget to keep track. Don’t lose out on your water intake by simply not paying attention to what you are drinking all day.
4. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Going to the store? Take water. Going to your child’s school? Take water. Going for a walk? Take water. Get the point? Take water with you wherever you are. That way, when you get thirsty, water is available to you!
5. Stop drinking sugary drinks! They are not only bad for you but are filled with empty calories. You can drink water instead and not only be calorie-free but also be helping your body! Every time you drink something sugar-filled, you are taking away from when you could be drinking water.
6. Add flavor to your water! This one is so simple and perfect for those that might not really like the taste (or non-taste) of water. Crystal Light is a wonderful way to add flavor to your water. They are delicious!

I used them often throughout the day and had no problem getting my daily intake of water because of it. When I went to Walmart last week, I was surprised at just how many flavors are available now. These are all great tips to drink more water. I always drink my water with a straw because I drink more that way. I read that tip somewhere years ago and it works well for me.

I have a cup of coffee in the morning, sometimes two. During the day when its cooler I enjoy a few cups of tea. I love the whole process of making tea. The rest of the time I drink water. I have a jug I take into my home office and sip on it all day long.

I just started drinking Crystal Light with the recent weight loss program I was on. It was helpful to drink a lot of water. I don’t mind drinking water and really prefer it over other drinks, but I just don’t drink a lot of it. Good to know what our purchases can get!

I drink so much water I sometimes slosh. The problem with right now is… I am in Montana and their water just doesn’t taste as good as mine at home. I find myself drinking less. I guess if I flavored it, I would probably drink more.
