This is what I did today. The snowpocalypse (as it was called on the radio) came down in full force. What you see is half of my driveway cleared. What you don’t see is that within 30 minutes of my walking away from this, you couldn’t even tell I shoveled at all. This little bit took me over 30 minutes to complete and was covered as I was finishing it. It became a matter of principle for me. The snow would not beat me. No sir!
I remember years ago how I would go outside and ride my bike when it was cold out. My kids haven’t been outside to play in months. It saddens me really how much they are stuck in the house. I used to play out in the snow for (what seemed like) hours. I know it was more work for my mom to get me dressed than for me to actually go play. I am sure it took me about as long to get ready to go out as it did for me to tucker out from the cold.
Johnny and Joley both got some outside toys for Christmas. Do they get outside to play with them? NO! You see, they can’t go out and play with their scooters because they have nothing to wear. Well, that and the fact that the snow just wouldn’t quit. My kids are big babies when it is cold outside though and act as though they will freeze on the spot. I didn’t waste the money this year on snow suits and boots because, in years past, they just sat. They have sleds they don’t even use.
They say they want to go outside to play in the snow but, when faced with the decision to go out or stay in, they choose to stay in and play video games or watch movies. What about your kids? Do they play out in the cold weather or stay indoors?

I feel your pain about getting the kids ready to go out in the snow. We haven’t had a lot here as in the past, but we try to take advantage when it comes. We even bought a sled and have a nice hill, minus the trees. But I’ll tell you what, I lost every ounce of patience getting the kids ready to go out only to have mittens falling off before we made it out the door, my son immediately sticking his hand in an ice cold pool of water to “clear out the ice”, promptly soaking his gloves and part of his clothes and my daughter climbing up a walking path to sit down in the mud. Not to mention, it’s too darn difficult to drag my kids to the top of the hill when they won’t walk – too young. My hubby is always gone to work or called into work when it snows, so it’s just me.
