Mike works hard. He has a physically demanding job and it wears on his body. From back to shoulder to neck, he is always having pains. He has tried everything to little avail.
We were sent some Salonpas Pain Relief Patches for Mike to try recently. The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the smell. They aren’t overpowering but they do have an odor similar to muscle rub creams. The patches are soft and conform very easily to the body. They are thin so you need to be careful when placing them on the skin to make sure they don’t get stuck (similar to a bandage getting stuck tape to tape). There are easy-to-follow directions on the package.
The first patch Mike used was on his shoulder. He carries large water bottles on his shoulders all day, every day at work. His muscles get sore and tight. He said that the patch really does work and the pain and tightness was relieved after the patch was placed on him. He is not a huge fan of the smell but said it isn’t too bothersome (and isn’t near as strong as other methods he has tried before).
Here is a bit more information about the Salonpas Pain Relief Patches:
- Salonpas Pain Relief Patch is the only FDA-approved OTC pain relieving patch on the market
- Since it’s a patch, the medicine goes right to the site of pain
- Flexible and easy to wear
- Last up to 12 hours (most other pain medicines only last 2-hours)
- Great for muscle and joint pain, arthritis pain, back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, sprains, strains, bruises
As a nurse, I am always interested in products that are non-prescription and safer than oral medications. I have seen many patients become addicted to pain medicine or harm their stomach or liver by using over-the-counter pain medications. I would recommend Salonpas Pain Relief Patches as a first line of defense against pains whenever possible.

Thanks for the review, I will look into these, i just had surgery on 2 tears on my rotator cuff 2 weeks ago, and am not liking the few pain med that I am taking. After it heals I want to try to switch over to something else while doing the PT.
