If you remember from a few weeks ago, I talked my husband into putting up holiday (we call them Christmas) lights on our house. It had been several years and our lights were toast. It was necessary to buy all new and Collective Bias was going to send me to Sears to do just that. Well, we did go! In fact, we chose the busiest shopping day of the year to go to get the most bang for our buck, so to speak. We went to Sears on Black Friday!
I went list-less but I knew that I wanted to do LED lights on our house. I had no idea how many lights there were going to be able to pick from though. I clearly was not prepared.
Seriously, I was walking in a daze for some time. Mike finally found what we were looking for on an end cap. These were very popular and selling quick. We grabbed up 3 of one size and 2 of the other. Despite our measurements, we aren’t sure how much we will need. I think this is more than enough though. Fingers crossed!
Now, we figured out how much of our budget ($150) was left and walked around trying to figure out the best use of those funds. That brought me to another LED section… the ground lights!
Joley fell in love with the “candy” ones. I have to say, those are a great choice. Not only are they cute, but they change colors so they should make for a fun display!
I had a little bit of my budget left so I went looking for one more item that would complete the scene. I fell in love with one thing and had to have it. This is a 24 inch LED wreath! I was so excited to get this one.
We maxed out our budget and even picked up a few other things to buy so it was time to go. The lines weren’t long at all. In fact, there was only one person in line before us.
I didn’t realize until too late that our big red bow that cost $8.70 was included in my total and I didn’t even consider asking the poor cashier to start over. So, my total is off just a bit. Besides that, the darn tax is crazy! But, in the end, I did really good on my budget I think!
We were finally ready to head home, and that is what we did. All that was left was putting all the lights up. This is a job I stayed out of. My husband headed back onto the roof and put them up by himself.
We had a change of plans on the lights. Our front tree was much bigger than we originally thought. So, the front windows were pushed off and the tree got more lights. Mike then put the “candy” lights in front of that tree.
This whole time, the kids were so excited to see the finished product.
Then came the bad news. My beloved wreath was broken. The power switch was broke off of it and it couldn’t be used. I jumped online to see if there were any more in the store and they aren’t available. The time it says will be over 30 days so obviously that isn’t something we will have for this year. I have called every store in our area just to be sure and they are just not available. I am so sad.
That doesn’t mean that our house doesn’t look great though! We have a very beautiful and colorful house that I love. My daughter loves elephants so my mom and dad found a fun blow-up for her. It doesn’t light up much so it stays close to the house.
The “candy” lights are probably my favorite part. They do a lot of color changing. From all white, to red and green, to one of each color, to all the colors in a row. They are super cute and are a great part of the decorations.
The finished product is just awesome. My pictures don’t do it justice at all. I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to take pictures where you can truly see the beauty of our lights. I am so glad that we have lights up this year and my kids are ecstatic.
As you can see, we were able to light up our house for $150 easily. Thankfully, everything at Sears was labeled with sale prices clearly, making our shopping trip as stress-free as was possible for Black Friday. We found a few other things, namely a big red bow, that we purchased for our holiday decorating. I will definitely be heading back to Sears again in the future if we need to purchase more holiday decorations because their selection was plentiful. I am disappointed that I can’t get the wreath in time for this year but have found their price to be well below other stores, so that is probably why it is so popular. I will be taking ours back and checking weekly to make sure it hasn’t come in. If not, it will be on my list for next year’s purchases.
This was such a fun experience and one that will impact our Christmas decorating for years to come. I can’t wait to share this with my kids each year and see them get excited time and again when our house lights up in anticipation of Christmas!
