This post is in collaboration with Unilever. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s time to show my shame. I will hang my head now and tell you something truly shameful. Are you ready for this confession?
We don’t recycle our bathroom products.
All those shampoo and conditioner bottles, not to mention the soap/body wash and lotion bottles, are thrown in the trash. What is more telling though is the amount of bottles we have in our shower at any given time. Right now, we have at least 10 bottles of shampoo/conditioner/body wash in our shower. I am not alone in this either! One in 5 Americans have at least 10 bottles in their bathroom at any given time. Some of our bottles are near full, some near empty. Sadly, they were all on their way to the trash can… but not any longer!
The new Unilever Bathroom Recycling Index found that while a majority of Americans are aware that their empty bathroom bottles are recyclable, less than half report regularly bringing them to the bin. This is contributing to the nearly 29 million tons of plastics sent to landfills each year! Again, I am guilty!
Unilever is launching “Rinse. Recycle. Reimagine.”. This new program designed to educate people about recycling in the bathroom, inspire them to reimagine what empty bathroom products could become through recycling, and ultimately make a small change that holds big potential to positively impact the environment. We can all look forward to a Bright Future when we recycle our bathroom bottles. What could those bottles become? They can take on new life to return as hairbrushes, backpacks or even backyard playsets!
