It was some time ago now that I had my “First Look” ultrasound. I didn’t want to give an update until I received all of the results and that didn’t happen until mid-week last week. The good news is that I saw little baby and he/she is doing great. They were moving around and had the hands in the face a lot. I got some great shots of profile and little feet. It was wonderful.
The ultrasound showed no concerns. There wasn’t an excess amount of fluid (nuchal lucency) and there was a identifiable nasal bone (down’s syndrome indicators). After the ultrasound, they took 5 drops of blood. After combining the results from the ultrasound with the findings with maternal serum, they were able to determine the risk for my baby to have certain issues. A normal average risk of having a child with Down’s Syndrome for a woman my age is 1 in 292. After my results, my risk is now 1 in 5,821. My adjusted risk for trisomies 18 or 13 is normally 1 in 532 based on my age. After my results, my risk is now 1 in 2,515.
What this means is that I can sit back and relax a bit more. No mother can sit back and not worry during pregnancy but I am more at ease with the baby’s health right now. It was also nice to have an ultrasound that correlates with my due date, October 22.
All in all, I am glad I did the testing. I was wondering while there why I was putting myself through all it though. It took several hours to get through the process and it was very nerve-wracking. My next doctor’s appointment is next Tuesday and I will get a quick glimpse at baby again. My “big” ultrasound is scheduled for June 10th.
Thank you to you all for your support and love during these past few weeks. I appreciate all the tweets and emails.

That is great news! I had the same test done with Abby. It’s nice to be able to rest a little easier knowing that everything is okay.
