If you follow me on Twitter, you will know that I mentioned today that I need a pick-me-up. Well, someone was listening because I received some good news in the mail today!
I saw a letter from Financial Aid at school…. panic begins. I can’t go to school without loans so I was immediately nervous upon seeing a letter from them. I opened it and had such a pleasant surprise! I was awarded a $1000 scholarship for this year! I sent in the application almost before the deadline on the off-chance I would qualify for one. I didn’t know if I would but I had scholarships when I got my first degree and I know how helpful they were.
My essay was about why I want to be a Midwife and what my career goals are in the future. Apparently someone liked it. I was awarded the Towards Independence Scholarship!
There is only one slight problem. I have to enroll in 6 credit hours at UMSL each semester to get the scholarship. I only have 3 hours planned for Spring because of so many transfer credits… but I do need an Economics class. Hopefully I can take that online in the Spring through UMSL (I was going to take it at the Community College) and that will get my extra 3 hours. I will work it out in November I guess.
You have no idea how wonderful it is to get help with school. We need it for me to be able to go. Not having the extra loans is wonderful… and being recognized for my hard work in my other degrees and essay is wonderful!
