Back to school time means many changes in our daily lives in my home. But, one thing that it always means is that my kids are going to start having some allergy problems. There are so many allergens in the environment but one thing always helps my kids. Children’s Claritin has become part of our morning routine!
I wanted to share some tips with you today for those Back to School allergy sufferers you may know.
Allergy Tips for Kids
- Do what we do! Keep the Children’s Claritin on hand. It is the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy brand of allergy medication.
- Give your children a daily vitamin. Multi-vitamins are important to have building and maintaining a strong immune system.
- Open up your curtains and let the light in! Mold thrives in dark places so keep the light coming in and fight those allergens.
- Check out your pillows. Pills trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria. Keep an eye on your child’s pillow and replace it if necessary.
- Don’t leave your wet laundry in the washer. I know, that one is a tough one for a busy mom. But, wet laundry can harbor mold so you have to get it moving to the dryer!
- Watch the pollen counts. You may want to adjust outdoor activities during high allergy days. Dry, windy days can be particularly high in pollen.
- This is one I always do with my kids and myself… shower at the end of the day. Showering at the end of the day removes allergens from your body surface and hair.
- Stay hydrated! If your child’s school allows it, send in a bottle of water with them. Drinking a lot of clear fluids through teh day can help get rid of toxins and flush out the body.
- Avoid morning activities if possible. Peak pollen production typically occurs in the early morning so planning activities during other times of the day may be better.

I wash my grandson’s bedding more often during allergy season. That seems to help!
