I just wanted to take a few minutes to remember all those lives lost on 9/11/01. Not only those lives lost but all the loved ones that are still dealing with the loss of their spouses, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, children, friends, neighbors, or otherwise.
I was at school sitting in the hallway getting ready to take a nursing lab exam. I spoke with my mom on my red cell phone and she told me what had happened and what was continuing to happen. It is quite amazing the memories you can keep when it is something so significant (the red phone is a stand out in my memories because it was my source of information).
We went into the lab (which had no lights on and was dark for some reason) to see what was going on and were met by our professor who was upset. Her son was not answering his phone (or couldn’t) and she was terrified. She was crying and we all were unsure what to say. What do you say when someone is afraid of the possible loss of a loved one? We were only a month into school so it isn’t like we even knew her well. We ended up not doing our lab that day and went home. Her son ended up being okay.
The day will forever live in my memory… I imagine like the killing of JFK does in generations before me. What were you doing on 9/11/01 when you heard the news of the hijacked planes and plane crashes?
