I never went to camp as a kid. I don’t ever recall knowing about a camp or being interested in one. It just wasn’t on the radar. Now, there are camps at the local parks and private ones all over. Kids have it so good now! Tayler went to a local day camp when she was younger because it was a way for her to be taken care of during the day while her dad and I both worked. She had fun playing with other kids and swimming.
Today, I am volunteering my time at a local Christian Day Camp. I received an email from my future-boss saying that this camp was in need of nurses to volunteer their time for a few days. I realized that Mike was off work on Monday and there wasn’t a second thought in my mind. I called and volunteered my time right away. I will be the nurse on staff for the campers. Sadly, I am unable to help the rest of the week but I am glad to be there for one day.
Kenzie will be able to be a camper while I am there too and she is excited. She will be able to do whatever the other campers do which can be swimming, horseback riding, boating, crafts, or other fun things. Since Tayler doesn’t have a job yet, I decided it would be good for her to volunteer some time too so she will be there as a youth volunteer. I am hoping that she takes this as a time to be grateful for the things she has and be honored to help others. Either way, it will be good for her to be out of the house and doing something.
I wouldn’t normally do this but I wanted to share a bit of information about the camp. They offer camp for children regardless of whether they can pay or not. I think this is fantastic but that doesn’t mean the kids are there without cost. They rely on donations or sponsorship from outside sources to help these kids. If you would like to help or would like more information, check out Strong Tower Ranch.
I will let you know how my volunteer time goes tomorrow. I was wondering though… did you ever go to camp? What about your kids? What did you/they think about the experience?
