I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Influence-Central for #AveenoEczemaTherapy. I received a sample to facilitate my review and a thank you item for participating.
Did you know that October is National Eczema Awareness Month? Yeah, neither did I until I was asked to write about our experience with using Aveeno Eczema Therapy to treat our eczema issues. You see, eczema is a big problem in our home. Jemma, Joley, and I all have issues that make using Aveeno products necessary.
If you struggle with eczema, there are some things you can do to prevent the flare-ups (a change in your skin that results in eczema being prevalent). Here are a few ideas for you:
- Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, dry air, perfumed products, bubble bath, and harsh soaps.
- Choose fabrics wisely. Use blankets and clothing made of cotton. Avoid more irritating fabrics, such as wool. Avoid stiff synthetics, such as polyester.
- Especially during the winter, use a humidifier to add moisture to indoor air.
- After showering or bathing, pat yourself dry instead of rubbing. This helps to leave a little moisture on your skin.
- Apply a moisturizing cream or lotion to trap moisture in the skin.
The one thing that has really helped my girls during a flare up is taking a bath with Aveeno Eczema Therapy Bath Treatment. It is a colloidal oatmeal skin protectant that was recommended by our physician. The girls’ skin comes out soft and they state they have less itching and discomfort. You can also find the Bath Treatment for adults. Unfortunately, we don’t have a tub that I am comfortable in so I haven’t been able to use it. It worked wonderfully for me in the past though.
The treatment that we find works the best for flare-ups and prevention is using a good lotion. Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream is available for both adults and also specially formulated for babies. It is the one product that I think truly has an effect on the duration of our flare-ups. The lotion goes on smooth and you can instantly feel a difference in the amount of moisture in your skin.
We use the Moisture Cream after baths every evening (or every other evening during the winter months, if possible). Using it throughout the day is also important though. That is easy for Jemma and I as I carry Aveeno Eczema Therarpy Hand Cream in my purse. Applying it throughout the day helps to keep my skin soft and smooth, often times preventing a full flare-up and decreasing the duration of them as well.
You don’t have to take my word for the benefits of Aveeno products though! Aveeno has been awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Approval for providing gentle, superior ingredients to soothe skin with eczema. The ingredients in Aveeno have been proven to help with the itching, roughness, dryness, and irritation associated with Eczema. I encourage you to head to your local store (Aveeno products can be found at all major retailers) and look for the Aveeno Eczema Therapy line of products if you have someone in your home that suffers from this condition. They will thank you for it!
