Who do you go to when you want recommendations for baby and child products? Friends, family, online? Me too! The thing about that is though, I often worry about the safety standards of children’s products. Yeah, my best friend may think a product “rocks”, but it really is not the safest item around. See the problem there?
I can’t tell you the number of times I have researched different car seats and baby gear. The hours spent on this task is absolutely ridiculous. I got all the recommendations for friends, read all the reviews on websites, went to the store and looked at the products themselves and was still left wondering what I should buy. Does the price of the baby jumper mean that it is better/worse than others? Just because this car seat isn’t recommended by my friends, does that make it less safe?
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Influence Central for the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
If you are like me and worry about the safety of the products you purchase for your children, I have good news for you. All you need to do is look for this:
That is the JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association) certification seal. It tells you that the manufacturer of the product is dedicated to the continual safety of your child. The manufacturer tests these products annually. There are over 2000 products that have this seal on them!
So you may say, “But Stefany, all products have to be approved by the government for distribution. What makes this so special?” Well, my friends, this is true. All baby products must meet certain government requirements, but JPMA certification offers more! They take more into account including exactly how a product is used, not just if it is going to break. You can trust that any product you purchase with the JPMA certification seal on it is tested to the highest quality standards for the product category.
Pretty great, right? See more about what I am talking about…
I know, as a parent, my children’s safety is of the utmost concern. Why trust just anyone with that? I will be looking for the JPMA Certification Seal on products in the future! Check out Baby Safety Zone for all the safety recommendations and to connect with other parents.

I think it’s a great idea to have an independent entity to review products. I’m glad JPMA is up for the job.

This is great advice! There is so much overwhelming information out there these days… it’s harder and harder to be well informed!
Yona Williams says
I learned a lot with that lil’ infographic; this is the first time that I’ve heard about JPMA certification before. When I want a recommendation, I pose a question out on my FB page…and the bloggers/buddies that I connect with the most (a few others) usually give me their opinions, and then I will take them into consideration when I do my research.

I usually read reviews online and compare. But really it can get overwhelming sometimes. It;s nice to know that there is a place that can save me time for products that are safe and effective for my whole family

I love this! I usually spend hours before buying certain products for my babies. It can get over whelming, so it is nice to know I have another place to go to.

This is great information for new mommies! I usually just go with what I’ve always used, since I’m a mom of 3 I’m pretty familiar with everything baby!
Chrystal @ Nevermore Lane says
Friends and family can often be reliable sources. I’d like to think they’ve done their own homework where kids are concerned. It is nice to know there are things we should look for and companies that take care of some of the work for us.

I know that there is good information out there to help us make decisions. Does it cost money/lobby to get approval?

I’ll be sure to look for that certification the next time I look at juvenile products. I usually rely on recommendations from friends and family (along with some online research).

I tend to ask family and friends who have “been there, done that” for recommendations. It’s good to see an extra layer of testing, though, and I’ll be looking for this seal more now!
Stefany says
Same here Jaime! Thanks for stopping by today!
