Ever since Johnny started potty training, our life outside the home has been different. No longer is there such a thing as a “quick errand” or “running to the store”. Each and every trip now includes something that is new and exciting to my 4 year old son.
Every time we head out of the house, Johnny has to go potty. You might be thinking that he really needs to go… maybe that we give him too much to drink or don’t make him go before we leave. Well, you would be wrong. We are careful to always make sure he goes potty before we leave the house. Amazingly, whether it be 5 minutes or 30 minutes later, as soon as we hit a store, Johnny has to go potty again.
Thankfully, most of the time, Mike and I are both present when these frequent trips to the bathroom happen. I much prefer he go to the men’s room where he can use a urinal. When necessary, I will take him but that always seems to be a big ordeal. I can tell you this much… we have seen nearly every single bathroom in the greater St. Charles area over the past several months. No matter where we are, I can promise you that one of us will know where to go if you have to use the restroom. Johnny makes sure of that!
After reading a comment, I was reminded of one other “issue”. Johnny refuses certain bathrooms. He will not go in a Port-A-Potty. He will not go if the floor is cracked. He will not go if the wind is blowing from the west. Oh yes, not only is he on tour of local bathrooms, but he is also picky too. What a joy this is!
Anyone else have a kiddo that wants to see every bathroom they can while out of the house?

My daughter is giving me enough trouble potty training at home, I don’t look forward to the “rest of the world” part of it.
I don’t blame Johnny for refusing a pot-a-john, those are so

Haha! My 7-year old daughter loves bathroom tours! In fact, she’s been on a 5-1/2 year long bathroom tour. We’ve toured numerous bathrooms in Hawaii, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana and Georgia. I swear, the child has to use the potty at every. single. store or restaurant! lol
Thanks for stopping by. I’m so glad that I’m not alone when it comes to these crazy bathroom habits. lol Have a great day.

Umm…I didn’t know this was a problem. LOL. I guess you don’t realize how disgusting bathrooms are until you’re older. I just asked my mom and she said I never wanted to go in public bathrooms. I believe her because I dread going in one now. I witnessed too many people that do not wash their hands.
Oh…and no one wants to use a port a potty. I’ll just have to set a world record by holding it.

LOL oh yes, my son does this ALL the time! I tell him no, you don’t have to go. He says pee is going to go all over my pants! LOL we take him and if he likes the bathroom he will want to go again 5 min later! He loves the bathroom at church! As soon as we hit a store he will need to go give or take within 10 min! I’m visiting from Saturday’s Sound off!!!

Hilarious! You should start a sub-blog that documents all of the local area bathrooms and then rates them on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being “I’ll never step foot in there again” to 5 “so clean Johnny will use it!”
Stopping by from your sound off! 🙂

When my daughters were first potty-trained, we also visited every bathroom in every store we went to. I made sure they went before leaving the house, I would even wait for them to go at home before leaving. They still “had to go” when we got to the store. The good news is, they do grow out of it.
Happy Mother’s Day!

OMGosh! This is too funny. It’s an adventure! My 4yo has to go potty in a store when she’s bored. If, say, I’m looking at curtains too long or something, It’s always an EMERGENCY! She has the fake pee pee dance down to a tee. Then, if we pass something on the way that she wants to look at, she has no problem stopping. I say, “I thought you had to pee.” At which time she resumes the fake pee pee dance. I’m afraid to call her bluff though!

Oh my goodness, that would really frustrate me. Even if someone is with me when I have my three youngest out I hate visiting bathrooms in certain places, but I have come to know where different bathrooms are. My problem? Everyone has to go at a different time even if I make them go before we leave or at the same time in a store if one has to go. With two little girls visiting bathrooms is often extra gross. I like when my oldest daughter is with me ’cause I can bully her into taking said little one to the toilet. 🙂
Have a happy Mother’s Day and a fabulous weekend.

You brought back some memories there. And I can’t blame him with the portapotty issue. I don’t like ’em either. 😉

Too funny. Glad I can trigger more memories for ya. Love the “he will not go if the wind is blowing from the west”– such an accurate portrayal of that age. Lol.

SOO funny and oh So, so true!!
Maybe it’s a phase? But i remember such nightmarish experiences with my son. He refused the ladies restroom and there was no way he was going in the men’s without me, especially some of those scary places… who knows what was going on in there.
He is now 10. Thank the Lord I endured that one.
Good luck. And great read.
