Have you seen the show Whale Wars on the Animal Planet? If you haven’t, you may be unaware of what Captain Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherd are doing. While you are there, be sure to check out the biography of Captain Watson. He is a very interesting man.
Japanese fleets are hunting whales for what they are calling “research”. This senseless, violent killing of these amazing creatures is disheartening. During Operation Musashi in 2008-2009, the Sea Shepherd saved 305 whales from death by the hands of the Japanese fleets. The Japanese still were able to kill 679 Minke whales (had targeted 935) and then took one endangered fin whale of their targeted 50 whales. While many whales are still being slaughtered, the Sea Shepherd, led by Captain Paul Watson were able to interfere with the Japanese hunting and save some of the whales.
I would like to tell you to tune into the show, but I won’t. It is horribly sad, horribly vulgar and horribly violent… to whales. After seeing the show, it affects me for a very long time and I doubt I will ever forget some of the things I see. I would like everyone to see this senseless killing so maybe something could be done to stop it. But, instead I am going to ask you to click over to the Sea Shepherd’s site and find out just what they are about. It isn’t just whales. They are trying to save other sea life too.
So, what can you do? Start here. Do what you can. You really don’t know how horrible this is until you see it. It must be stopped.
